From the Classroom to the Marketplace
Students Building Their Future
Learning That Opens Doors
What happens when students have the opportunity to put their learning into practice? For three senior students at Virgen del Rosario School in Sullumayo, Peru, it means discovering new possibilities for their future.
Recently, these students participated in a technical fair in Urcos, the provincial capital of Quispicanchi, where they proudly showcased what they have been learning through The Quispicanchi Project’s chicken shed initiative. The fair provided an opportunity to share their knowledge, demonstrate their skills, and show their community what is possible when education extends beyond the classroom.
Turning Skills into Opportunity
For many young people in rural communities, continuing their education at a university is not always an option. Developing practical skills that can lead to income-generating opportunities is therefore essential.
The chicken shed serves as a hands-on learning space where students gain experience in poultry production, entrepreneurship, and the responsibilities of managing a sustainable project. Through this experience, they are learning more than how to raise chickens and produce eggs. They are discovering how their knowledge and hard work can translate into real economic opportunities.
At the technical fair, the students put those lessons into action. They sold their fresh, 100% organic eggs, spoke with a local media outlet about their work, and even took orders through WhatsApp! Their efforts not only helped generate income for the project but also gave them firsthand experience in marketing, customer engagement, and connecting their products with the wider community.
A Small Project with a Lasting Impact
As the only project of its kind in the Sullumayo region, the chicken shed represents an important investment in the next generation. It brings together two of The Quispicanchi Project’s key impact areas: education and economic development.
By creating opportunities for students to learn through experience, we hope to equip them with practical skills, greater confidence, and a clearer vision of what their futures might hold. The project also demonstrates how locally grounded initiatives can create meaningful opportunities while working toward long-term sustainability.
Investing in Possibility
We are proud of these three students and the initiative they demonstrated at the technical fair. Their experience is an encouraging reminder that education is about more than what happens inside a classroom. It is about equipping young people with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to pursue opportunities and build a future for themselves and their families.
At The Quispicanchi Project, we believe that when education meets opportunity, possibilities begin to grow. These students are already showing us what that can look like.
