Hello!
My name is Billy Metz, and I am currently a Junior attending Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida studying Theatre with an emphasis in performance. I am honored to have the golden opportunity to devote my summer as a companion with the Quispicanchi Project. As a companion, I will be surrounded by different cultures and lifestyles in Peru, gaining a sense of awareness to share in and support the lives of others. I cannot wait to spend my time serving rural and indigenous communities in Southern Peru. I am also excited with the opportunity to focus on my own personal improvement, spiritual formation, and giving myself the time and space to examine my own mental and emotional processes.
I wanted to take this summer before I graduate college and accompany the Quispicanchi Project. I have been very blessed to go on service and immersion trips since middle school living in communities such as Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Ireland. I love traveling and getting an immersive experience of people’s cultures. My belief is that the key to growing as a person and member of society is to be able to develop the skill of empathy to get a better sense of how to better serve a community.
As a lacrosse player at the Division one and two level I have found that challenging circumstances and immense adversity unveils what a person is made of. I believe through my 13 years playing the game I have been able to develop traits that help me lead others and myself. Through servant leadership I am confident that challenges will only help me accompany the community in Quispicanchi.
The theater stage and film set has been a lifelong calling and I am lucky enough to begin to explore and grow in that field. I have always loved to write and create new worlds where a character can find success in a journey of adversity. Through these stories I have found that they overlap in my own life to help me better understand myself and others. I am excited for what the future holds, and I believe that through my experience in Peru I will be able to grow and learn new skills as an actor, writer, and person. To fully understand a play, movie, or written text, it is vital to understand the characters. I know that with a more diverse experience of life I will be able to better respect and fulfill the complexity of portraying others in film and on stage.
Through God I have been blessed with an enormous amount of love and support. I know that wherever I go he is guiding me. My number one priority in life is to to serve others by using the gifts God has given me.
Please consider supporting this experience through a financial contribution to my fundraising campaign. Your gift will not only impact my own formation but, more importantly, directly benefit the people in the communities where I will serve. To better understand The Quispicanchi Project, I recommend exploring its website and social media to learn more about the support they provide to people living in the region. I will also be running 1 mile for every $100 donated, for some extra incentive.
Thank you for your support!
