Chicken Shed Opens at Virgen del Rosario School

This July 2025, during the Project Leadership Team’s summer visit to Quispicanchi, we celebrated a joyful and long-awaited milestone: the official opening of the new Chicken Shed at Virgen del Rosario School in Sullumayo.

With signs of gratitude, laughter, and a bit of champagne, students and teachers from all three divisions of the school gathered to witness Board President Gina House christen the shed—breaking a bottle over its wooden door to mark a new beginning for student nutrition and hands-on learning.

Over the past six months, the Quispicanchi Project has worked hand-in-hand with local families and school staff to design and build this innovative space, which will eventually house over 300 chickens. The goal? To provide a sustainable, protein-rich food source to supplement the school’s daily nutrition program—ensuring students have the nourishment they need to thrive.

Its About more than food

Seniors at the secondary school have received specialized training from a local poultry expert, gaining the skills to care for the chickens as part of their school day. In doing so, they’re learning how agriculture and entrepreneurship can shape their futures—opening doors to potential careers and greater economic stability.

"We’re learning something real," one student shared. "This could help me start a small business one day. Or support my family."

The festive opening was a celebration of community collaboration and our shared commitment to long-term, locally led solutions. It’s also a powerful example of what’s possible when vision meets support.

This project simply would not be possible without the generosity of our donors. Your investment is helping to nourish not just bodies—but minds, futures, and community resilience.

From the students of Virgen del Rosario to our entire team: thank you for helping make this dream a reality.
